Tokyo Style Swaps - saving tones of clothing from landfill!

Next Tokyo Style Swap is October 26th near Tokyo Station! I just calculated that based on 13 swaps so far and on average 400kg of clothing taken away by our recycle partner, we have kept, get this, over 5,200 kgs of clothing above ground! 5,200kg! I wonder what that looks like?

World Wear Project

I know what it looks like at the end of each swap (it's a jaw dropping amount of 95 litre refuse bags at the end of each swap - people who see it are stunned. When you see it there in front of you - it gives pause for thought and helps greatly to get that conscious consumption part of our brains lit up). I found this article with some statistics and sources thereof - really interesting. Swappers make a little dent in this and not only that, it's our conscious consumption as a result of getting involved that creates more sustainable spending and purchasing. I only share what I'm doing, whether that be coaching, comedy or sustainable issues and I'm very proud of our swap community.
