Since 2005, I have worked in corporate training, coaching, facilitation. Based in Tokyo I have delivered in Japan, UK, Hong Kong, Singapore and with multiple nationalities.

I have coached hundreds of teams and individuals play at the next level and to experience their work-life more fully and positively; delivering not only on profession goals and KPIs but aligning with their personal vision and lives.

After starting as a freelance consultant, becoming a senior consultant I was invited to join the business as the Learning and Development Coordinator, where I was part of a diverse team of internal staff and a freelance consultants, serving multiple companies based in Japan; both Japanese domestic and international corporations.

Although in the UK I had worked in management in the beverage and telecoms industries, this is where I really cut my teeth in the corporate world and learned the patterns, politics and organisational complexity and challenges of corporate life. I listened to hundreds of reports, presentations; delivered numerous workshops on Mindmapping™, having influence and impact in international situations, effectively communicating in diverse groups, inclusion and leading in increasingly diverse global and regional teams, using technology to your advantage and a multitude of managerial skills. I traveled the country, visiting local offices, and learning the nuances of corporate culture from hundreds of different angles.

It’s also where I was introduced to and became focussed on coaching.

We weathered the 2008/9 financial crisis, the 2011 Great Eastern Earthquake and aftermath and the resulting business crises. I listened to hundreds of monthly, quarterly and yearly business plans and updates, and attended regional teleconferences and meetings supporting the clients in representing their business. This was a time of crisis-mode, innovation, shutdown, restructure and fast-response.

Our corporate training company laid off all of our external consulting staff following the Global Financial Crisis, loss of a key client and a devastating reduction in training budget for another. At that time we not only had to meet the internal changes and restructure but also coach and consult our clients as they weathered restructure, changing workloads, and increased uncertainty. These are experiences I bring to the table in coaching.

In 2012, I left that full time role and started Sarah Furuya Coaching.

Since then, I have specialised in no-nonsense, straightforward executive and private coaching, and facilitation. I was senior consultant for a Talent Development Agency 2013-2019, designing and developing workshops, inclusion programmes, 3-month, 6-month and 1-year journey programmes for both open entry and in-house applicants. I was one the first executive coaches on a manufacturing company’s inaugural coaching programme and designed the first women’s leadership programme for a sports company as well as 1:1 coaching their international leadership hires.


We have private clients around the globe

from all walks of life and life-stages, whom I take on referral, invitation and recommendation. I move between executive, business and personal coaching depending on the need - I find this approach extremely useful to work with the whole person and design and tailor their career goals from there, so they can flourish in both work and life and in their relationship systems. I call people to the highest possible version of themselves and the highest levels of contribution. I call them to look after themselves and to consider the systems that are assembled around them, how they can influence, contribute and how they are influenced and what contributes to their success or limits.

WE work closely with HR and programme sponsors

For ten years SFC has been working with a high-performing administraion management team, who will ensure all the scheduleing, admin, contracting and compliance is in order. We are very proud of the level of administration quality we provide, so that our coaching can be focussed not distracted. To ensure that both business and individual needs are being met and stay close to the corporate sponsors throughout, ensuring that needs are being met. Especially in this fast-paced, ever-changing world. COVID-19 has been an especially interesting challenge part-way through a one-journey programme with face to face workshop elements. I and my collaborators had to swiftly develop high competence to run workshops via video technology and blend face to face with virtual delivery.

It’s been fun and interesting to collaborate with guest facilitators to design an experience that feels connected while we deliver online AND sit 2-metre distance in session, when we can. An innovation Bootcamp for coaching and facilitating.
